To me a Business Analyst, is someone that is able to think strategically, and able to make decisive decision when it comes to certain business alternatives. Business Analyst is so broad and wide in knowledge. Anyone can be their own business analysts when giving the opportunity.
The IIBA seems to be similar to the CFA for Financialy Analysts. It could potentially set the standard for Business Analysts, but I agree with Karl in that it has a long way to go. (Perhaps long is a bit strong...?)
Hi, I've just joined this group. Currently I am doing master degree in business (banking and finance) in Monash GSB and working in a bank in Indonesia. I am looking for a new career in related area with background. Thanks,
I think the IIBA has a long way to go given the number of certified BAs (something like 13 in the southern hemisphere) but it is a step in the right direction

Have you heard of the International Institute of Business Analysts? Are you a member?http://www.theiiba.org/
I'm interested to hear what you think about the IIBA. Will they become the standard setters for our industry? The have an upcoming webinar on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 12 p.m. E.D.T., when IIBA President Kathleen Barret will be discussing "The Evolving Role of the Business Analyst." You can register for free here:https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/998067678
A Requirements Analyst on the other hand spends his or her time acting as the translation service between the business and I.T. groups. Their focus is on getting decisions on the 1000's of questions that need to be answered for any substantial I.T. project and communicating those decisions to the dev and test teams. What do you think a Business Analyst is?
I'd like to kick off a discussion here by asking what you think a Business Analyst actually is.Most of the BAs I've met are actually what I'd call Requirements Analysts. The few people who I would call true BAs tend to be involved in business process analysis and do the number crunching needed to support informed tactical business decisions. They often have nothing to do with computer systems.
Hello to all existing and new members of the Business Analysts group. I hope you find this group to be an interesting and informative resource. It should also be a great way to network with other people in your profession. As LinkMe expands the functionality in this groups section (events and discussion boards are coming next), we should be able to make really good use of this space.
